Prof. Omowunmi Mary Longe

Prof. Omowunmi Mary Longe is Deputy Head of Department, Professor and Chair of the Smart Power and Energy Systems Research Group in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Science at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. She holds PhD, M.Eng. and B.Eng. (Hons) degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, awarded in 2017, 2011 and 2001 respectively.

She is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers, and is registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa. She is the founder of the Sustainable Power, Energy, Transportation and Materials International Conference and co-chaired the Session on Green Technologies for Climate Adaptation at the 2024 US-Africa Frontiers of Science, Engineering and Medicine Symposium.

She was nominated for the 2026 Universitas 21 Award for Impact on Climate Action and Global Inclusivity, received the 2024 Women in Engineering and the Built Environment Lifetime Achievement Award, and holds three Best Paper or Best Presenter awards. She holds two patents and is widely published in Scopus- and Web of Science-listed journals and conference proceedings. Her research interests include renewable energy technologies, intelligent power and energy systems 4.0, electromobility, demand side management and smart energy management.
