Biography

Prof. Omowunmi Mary Longe is Deputy Head of Department, Professor and Chair of the Smart Power and Energy Systems Research Group in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Science at the University of Johannesburg. She holds PhD, M.Eng. and B.Eng. (Hons) degrees in electrical and electronic engineering, is registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa, and is a Senior Member of both the IEEE and the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers. She founded the Sustainable Power, Energy, Transportation and Materials International Conference, holds two patents, and received the 2024 Women in Engineering and the Built Environment Lifetime Achievement Award. Prof. Omowunmi Mary Longe is Deputy Head of Department, Professor and Chair of the Smart Power and Energy Systems Research Group in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Science at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. She is the founder of the Sustainable Power, Energy, Transportation and Materials International Conference and co-chaired the Session on Green Technologies for Climate Adaptation at the 2024 US-Africa Frontiers of Science, Engineering and Medicine Symposium.

She was nominated for the 2026 Universitas 21 Award for Impact on Climate Action and Global Inclusivity, received the 2024 Women in Engineering and the Built Environment Lifetime Achievement Award, and holds three Best Paper or Best Presenter awards. She holds two patents and is widely published in Scopus- and Web of Science-listed journals and conference proceedings. Her research interests include renewable energy technologies, intelligent power and energy systems 4.0, electromobility, demand side management and smart energy management.
